History of Teachers Day: Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan became President of India in 1962. It was his friends and former students who approached him and asked him to let them celebrate his birthday, which would be on September 5th. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan said it would be an honor for him if September 5 would like to celebrate Teacher’s Day. This request by the Second President of India shows his love and dedication to the teachers. From that day on, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on 5 September every year. This date has been observed since 1962, the year when Dr. Radhakrishnan took over as President of India.
